durer l'entrée pour 2008

For this last entry I'm going to talk about a book which I purchased quite recently.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

After watching the movie version of Twilight released on 23rd November 2008, I hurriedly bought the book version from Amazon. I got less price for being a devoted customer to Amazon since I came here in Montreal. There are other books which I promised myself to buy them after seeing the movie. But that all can wait since I was satisfied with the movie . To name a few, I will someday buy Nicholas Spark's, "A Walk To Remember", Cecelia Ahern's, "P.S I Love You" and J.K. Rowling's, "Harry Potters...". Though like I said, these all can wait. I have no intention to purchase them in a short time.

However, it was a different feeling after I watched Twilight. I found there's something missing and I want more. That's why I decided to buy the book. After reading a few pages, I am right about it. The story was beautifully written and the plot was so interesting. It was so irresistible and I can hardly put it down.

I am very mad at myself now because reading Twilight forbid myself to do other important stuffs during the winter break. I have another two serious book to be attached with (the group theory and differential geometry) apart of Twilight. These two books need pencil and paper in hand...hehe.

Though I'm going to play fair here, I am now more that half of pages of Twilight and I'm going to take a break...

Come on now, I need to be disciplined. If not who else?

Snowy

Today in the early morning, when I look outside, I can see that the whole place is covered by snow again. The snow is still falling and I believed the falling has kept on going for the whole night due to the thickness of the snow outside. But this time it drops slow and the droplets are small. Its like when we were having a light rain. In my opinion, this would be a good day to go outside .

After all, today's weather show a sudden drops to -3 degree if compared to yesterday, with -14 degree. I found that it gets colder when the snow is not falling. The weather here I must say quite complicated. I mean nothing is certain, that's for sure. Not for the entire predicted week. The way I see it, the weather forecast made an excellent job for only few days. So I guess we can use the common movie dialog here "we'll never know what the future might holds"...huhu

Personally, I like it when it is just snow with no rain. Because the rain will only make the snow into icy and thus the sidewalk will be slippery and dangerous. But the best part is after the rain, trees are more beautiful that it used to be. Even without leaves. The ice that cover its branch looks like a glass or some may say crystals. However, as the beautiful they might be, bigger icy trees play a dangerous role. If the weather get worst with strong wind, they can easily break and fall which at the end may threaten houses nearby. This as my friend mentioned do happened a lot during the winter here in Montreal.

I am now trying my best to enjoy the feeling of the winter, this is crap actually... hahaha but the snow...yes!

Note: We were having a blowing snow on Monday and its pretty bad that we were actually need to go outside to see a physician for Ain's flu shot. What an experience for the three of us.

Stop Thinking About

doing maths is actually dealing with numbers. This is very old thinking and ancient believes. hehehe... Mathematics is about idea and how the idea works. Solving problems mean nothing unless you know what is the gis of the idea is all about.

This I find difficult. Because in previous time when I'm taking maths courses, I can work out something easily but all involved problems with numbers. But when the generalization comes in, I'm pretty much lost. Honestly I hate to say that x, y is Real number and a, b is Complex number. They keep some memories inside your head which is virtually. But I guess our brain can have some functional for it. Right?

I discussed this with my supervisor today when we were trying to solve some problems involved groups. He asked me to speed up for the work out solution and insist on seeing him frequently if I face any problem. He mentioned that he was trying to train me into solving problem techniques and most important things is getting into the ideas. FORGET numbers but of coz not totally forget.

I feel like I'm living in a MATRIX world.

Note: he was saying that lets us finish these in 4 years...(ow! this sounds helpful)

My First Presentation

Wow...I just finished my first presentation today. And that will be the end of the touchè of the last course of my fall term. There are five of us and the speaker was selected in an alphabetical order. The rest were using their family name instead of their own name but I choose to use mine. And so I was the third person to give the talk.

My topic was quite a straight forward. It is the representation theorem and distributional function. I have to cover two topics which consists of six unequal theorem. The whole idea of the topic was to used the general theorem of converges in order to proof the representation theorem. This is actually a theoretical rather than practical subject. There's nothing more to add up to the theorem. I think I am lucky to have choose this topic. Because in my opinion anyone can do the same if they are given the opportunity. Nothing much to argue.

As usual, like I'm used to give a simple talk during my day at Physics Dept. (for the quantum group discussion..) my aim for the presentation was to make sure that the audience is with me and I'm not carried away with my own thoughts and so on.

First Thing for Everything

Yesterday it was less cold. Even though the snow is started to fall and streets were full of it. Believed it or not, it was my first heavy snow ever. I went to Concordia early (9 a.m.-it was darker and gloomy) as I need to submit my take home final exam for my PDE. I think I've done the best for this final and I just hope that my grade will turn out good. I really hope so. Despite that I've been carelessly lose quite a mark on my 1st and 2nd assignments. But the teacher told me that she'll be OK with it as long as I showed and proved some understanding of the subject.

I also think that I am finally find the right moved and mood to handle things surround me. For the first time I feel that it is a scary thing to have a discussion with the rest of the student. Sharing thoughts and stuff like that. But that happened just because of I was lack of information and at the same time having this feeling of "these people" knows better than me and these "mat saleh" usually perfect in everything. At the end, all I need is do more homework and work real hard.

Yesterday also, I got my first (influenza) flu vaccine shot. Not that I need it, it is just that prevention can make a lot of different. I got a free shot since I've met one of the criteria (living with a 0-23 months child). Else I need to pay 20 dollar for one shot. The vaccine is meant to prevent ourselves from influenza virus. Not that it can prevent us from being cold because of the winter. hehehe...this wording is stated in the module. We need to read it before getting the shots. After the shot was given, we need to stay for approximately 20 minutes to make sure that we don't have sudden (bad) side effects. If that happened then the nurse will take a counter action. But according to survey there's only 3%-7% of people who have the immediate bad side effect. Lucky me, there's no major side effect occured.

Pe'el Jiran Tetangga

Setelah dipikir-pikir dan dipeteng-peteng, akhirnya dapat cik salma buat kesimpulan tentang pe'el jiran tetangga. Teramatlah baik hati. Hari ini, sedang kami sekeluarga berehat-rehat menikmati sarapan pagi merangkap makan tengahari, tiba-tiba loceng rumah berbunyi. En. salam kata oh, ini mungkin our landlord, Nana Chen. Mesti macam nak tengok-tengok keadaan rumah yang didiami. Tapi bila dibuka pintu rumah, tiada siapa pun yang menunggu diluar. Kami hanya dapati ade sebiji almari (wardrobe) ditinggalkan. Kerana tidak diketahui siapa yang memberi, en. salam hanya menjerit, 'we thank you' to the open air.

ada seorang jiran ni, siap menamakan anak cik salma 'my little princess'. Segala macam mainan (yang ain memang tak main pun) diberikan. Termasuk juga pakaian. Ain juga dapat candy pertamanya sempena Holloween Day tempohari. Dia siap berjanji the coming new year eve akan ada lagi barang nak diberi.

Kesimpulannya, penduduk disini ramah tamah dan baik hati dan mulut kami dah naik letih menjawab soalan wajib setiap org "how do you do" bila bertegur sapa. Kami pun dah terikut-ikut dgn soalan wajib ini.

Note: Cumanya bilik cik salma dah nak penuh dengan barang ain yang tak guna. Macam mana la nak dismantle nih...
